New Skies on the Horizon

Well, life has certainly changed in many ways around here, but in many ways, it is still the same. I'm still creating and growing slowly. The kids are still running around with lots of giggles and monster trucks everywhere. We are settling into life, making friends, gathering inspiration and finding rest. New work is being created in the new studio space, and lots of water time is filling my head with images of waves and skies…some of my favourite bits of inspiration.

What is going on in the Studio?

A new watercolour collection was created in January of 2022 when a desk was finally found for the studio, and some paper and paints were unpacked. The warm-up pieces were tossed to the scrap pile (which I love to repurpose in my art journal) but then 17 pieces just came flowing out. I taped them up on the wall and they just hung out there for a few months.

I looked at them daily. I loved them, but they had me completely stumped. No names for the collection, no titles for the paintings, nothing. My head was empty, but my heart was full and waiting. And waiting I did. After all, I had been in a many month-long season of waiting. It was all too familiar.

Last week, I reached out on my instagram and facebook asking for some help. I talked about new skies on the horizon, and that I needed help naming them. Many of you helped build my brainstorming list. Hope was mentioned quite a few times.

I was talking to my friend Beth about it a bit and mentioned how so often I would come to stare at the pieces, and just hear silence. And then it clicked. My inspiration words helped me to look up scripture verses, and an hour or two later, all 17 pieces were named and so was the collection.

The Hope in the Silence Collection. A series of watercolour landscapes filled with textural brushstrokes, shimmers of gold and champagne, and lots of hopeful clouds. Moments of peace and rest while the world is still going at full speed around you.

A date for release is still to be determined, but I am hoping it will be soon! I have a few more finishing touches to do, as well as get everything photographed, edited and up on the website. I am still taking this season as a time of rest, and I hope that you are ok waiting just a little longer for this new collection.
