A Little Abstract Painting

The same week that I was feeling overwhelmed with work, and needed to just paint for me (and ended up painting this piece HERE), I dug up a smaller 12x12 inch canvas and painted this little guy too.  It's been hanging on the wall of the office ever since, and I really loved looking at all that gold and jewel tones smushed and blended together, with the rose painted on top.  I was totally falling for it more and more every day.  But as I knew that I was really enjoying my work, which is a rarity, I had the idea to give this painting away.  So now it is currently wrapped up in bubble wrap and cardboard and is travelling on its way to its new home.  I'm sad to see it go, but happy with where it's going!

Curry's Art Supplies, a favourite local art store up here, recently had their back to school sale, and I stocked up on  smaller canvases like this one.  I want to paint more, and get a little messier than I do with my watercolours.  I'm thinking that I'll make some smaller pieces, and get them up in the shop for sale, since Christmas is coming (too soon! I was driving around with the top down on our car today!), and gifting art is one of my favourite ways to gift.  There's just something about giving something that is handmade, one of a kind, knowing that the recipient of that gift has something that no one else in the world does.  I believe that's special.

What do you think about gifting art?  Do you find it difficult, not knowing if the person you are giving the piece to is going to like it?  Let me know in the comments!
